Fix the delimiter in a CSV file
If your whole row lands in a single column, the file is using a different delimiter than the program expects. CSVFix detects it and lets you export with the one you need.
Open CSVFixHow to do it
- Drop your file on the page. CSVFix detects the delimiter and shows it under the summary.
- If the preview looks wrong, pick the correct Input delimiter manually.
- Choose an Output delimiter: comma, semicolon, tab or pipe.
- Download the CSV, or export to Excel.
Why it happens
In many countries the comma is the decimal separator, so spreadsheet programs save CSV files with semicolons instead. A tool that expects commas then reads each row as one long value. The same happens with tab-separated and pipe-separated exports.
Questions
How do I know the delimiter is wrong?
Every row appears in one column, or numbers like 3,50 are split into two cells.
Which delimiter should I export for Excel?
It depends on your regional settings. Semicolon is common where the comma is a decimal mark, and comma is common in the US and UK.
Does it handle .tsv files?
Yes. Tab-separated files are detected like any other CSV.
