Trim extra spaces in a CSV file

Invisible spaces make values that look identical fail to match in lookups, joins and duplicate checks. CSVFix trims every cell and shows you which ones changed.

How to do it

  1. Drop your CSV file on the page, or paste your table.
  2. Keep Trim spaces on to remove spaces at the start and end of each cell. Keep Collapse repeated spaces on to turn double spaces into single ones.
  3. Cleaned cells are highlighted in yellow. Hover over one to see the original value.
  4. Download the cleaned CSV or Excel file.

Why it happens

Extra spaces come from manual typing, fixed-width exports and text copied from web pages, which often contains non-breaking spaces. These look like normal spaces but are different characters, and CSVFix converts them as well.

Questions

Does it change spaces inside a sentence?

Only if Collapse repeated spaces is on, and then only runs of several spaces become one.

Will it change my numbers or dates?

No. It only touches whitespace.

Can I see what changed?

Yes. Changed cells are highlighted and the summary counts them.
