Convert a CSV to tab-delimited (TSV)

Tab-separated files are common in data exports and for pasting into other tools. CSVFix converts any CSV to tabs without breaking values that contain commas.

Open CSVFix

How to do it

  1. Drop your CSV file on the page.
  2. Confirm the detected Input delimiter, or choose it manually.
  3. Set Output delimiter to Tab.
  4. Click Download CSV. The file is saved with a .csv extension, so rename it to .tsv if the receiving program needs that.

Why use tabs

Tabs rarely appear inside real data, so tab-separated files need fewer quotes than comma files. That makes them easier to read for some tools and scripts.

Questions

Is the file name .tsv?

No. CSVFix names it with .csv. Rename it to .tsv if required.

Do values containing commas still work?

Yes. Commas are just text when the delimiter is a tab.

Can I paste the result into a spreadsheet?

Yes. Open the file in a text editor, copy it and paste it into Excel or Google Sheets.
