Convert a CSV from comma to semicolon

Many versions of Excel, especially where the comma is the decimal mark, expect semicolons between values. CSVFix changes the delimiter without breaking values that contain commas.

Open CSVFix

How to do it

  1. Drop your CSV file on the page.
  2. Check that the summary says a comma delimiter was detected. If not, set Input delimiter to Comma.
  3. Set Output delimiter to Semicolon.
  4. Click Download CSV.

Why not use find and replace

A simple find and replace breaks values like "Madrid, Spain", because their commas are part of the data. CSVFix reads the file properly and writes it again with the new delimiter, adding quotes where they are needed. Only the delimiter changes: decimal marks are not touched, so 3.5 stays 3.5.

Questions

Does it change decimal points to commas?

No. Only the delimiter between columns changes.

Will values with commas inside break?

No. They are parsed as single values and quoted correctly in the output.

What if my program needs commas instead?

Load the file and keep the Output delimiter on Comma, or choose Same as input.
